History

Date of Birth: July 29th, 1888
Home: Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Honshu, Japan
Family: Rokuda Akikazu and Towa (parents), Norikane (older brother), Yasuteru (older brother), Ujisuke (older brother), Hideteru (older brother)
Second Breath: External Supernatural Trigger (Rie grew up in a poor family during the Meiji Restoration era of Japan; her parents died of typhus, leaving her and her brothers as orphans; they were recruited into an early yakuza gang, a branch of tekiya gangsters (protection rackets); a new merchant set up in town and the Rokudas were supposed to start a new deal, but a rival gang moved in first and drove the Rokudas off; their oyabun had them all killed by their throats slashed for failing the gang and costing a huge potential client loss; her final thoughts, as she bled out of her opened throat, was the shock of the cold water she was dumped in; but then she awakened in a cold gutter on the bottom level of the Wicked City, and was soon forced to whore herself out to the demonic predators that stalked those gutters, until at last she and other "guttersnipes" dared the dangers of the Hell's sewers; as monsters pounced and ate the other souls, she desperately clambered over the horrifying feeding frenzy to escape Hell up the Scarlet Path), 1910
Mentor: Sogo Shigekatsu
The Test: Trial by Influence (when she dug herself out of her grave, mindless and ravenous, a local Mandarin Crane subdued and restored her; Rie discovered her body had been dredged out of the Watarase River and buried in the town graveyard in Nikko, still a small town, but large enough to house the Court of the Old Man, an ancient and respected court of national spirituality; Rie appreciated the restoration but rejected the Mandarin's Dharma, embracing instead the Howl of the Devil Tiger due to her renewed sadistic tendencies as well as a deep and semi-conscious desire to suffer as well)
Comrades: Hori Tamiyo, Matsuno Isaki, Ouji Eitsu, Asari Wakuza, Cooper Wise
Key Event #1: Awe & Wonder (during her Ré, she met other young gaki and together they formed a Wu simply called the Nikko 5, formed to harvest Urns around the countryside)
Key Event #2: War (when World War II fell, she and her Wu stayed domestic, working to waylay and repel both Gui Ren and Kin-jin who attempted to infiltrate Tokyo)
Key Event #3: Awe & Wonder (after the war when peace came and a whole new crop of Hungry Dead arrived, Rie made a name for herself by embracing her path's tenets but always keeping an open mind, "young at heart", that wanted fresh perspectives; Running Monkeys came to respect her for an unapologetic ferocity)
Key Event #4: Awe & Wonder (later, she was granted permission to study abroad in the Flame Court at Hong Kong as part of a diplomatic cultural hand-shake; due to old prejudices, however, she found herself shut out of most regular activity, and so aligned with Bamboo Princes who were still nominally Quincunx, but welcomed outsiders, even gaki, even if meant radicalizing each other; her experience trained her to better connect a wider variety of Scarlet Screens for their foreign ambitions)
Key Event #5: Awe & Wonder (when the Nikko 5 regathered, she found herself eager to broaden her horizons even further, having secretly joined the Distinguished Sinner-Punishing Society while in China; both she and her sisters had new goals and a new style and approach, so with the Mandarins' permission and minor going-away gifts for the jina, they struck out for San Francisco in the US to bolster their Wan Kuei allies' Great Leap Forward)
Transition: Shift in Nature (but when she arrived, she and her Wu-mates felt inexplicably drawn to a chi'n ta, and this mortal mage was not even Japanese; while the others contacted Cooper or meditated on it, Rie did the practical thing and ran a background check through her gang connections to ensure he was clean, and then later she dueled him in private, where their battle went wild; she quickly came to accept this connection as part of her new approach to the world beyond Nikko)

The P’o

Appearance: Her Demon's witless contrarian behavior required her to learn how to wrangle it in well from the very beginning; it still manifests above all as a demanding and often petulant voice that wants what it wants, and it wants it now!
Trigger: Whenever she's given instruction or commands.

Jade Talismans

Red (*)
Appearance: A decorate barrette, the crimson-colored jade set in a brass clasp
Origin: Gift

Magical Artifacts

Sake Tokkuri of the Departed Siblings
Appearance: A clay decanter for holding, pouring, or simply drinking sake; it is a burgundy hue and etched with cardinal flower motifs
Origin: Gift
Effects: 1) This temporarily improves a Wu's guanxi bonds, increasing everyone's effective level by 2 (maximum still 10) for the scene
Activation: Every member of the Wu must drink from the bottle, in the order considered most appropriately harmonious for the Wu in question

Weakness
Public Corrections

Rie is more sophomoric than she'd ever admit. She likes to lure sinners into trying to sin with her. When they do, it's open season on their flesh and blood, body and soul. And she not only doesn't mind ripping them open (sometimes literally) in public. She prefers to, to set symbol for all who would think themselves special enough to do as they please and when they please.

Likelihood of Corruption

Average.

Like most Celestial Devils, she may seem hopelessly evil, but that's only because she visits evil upon the evil. It just so happens that many people are more evil than they'd ever admit.
